  1. A man died after being punched, kicked, and beaten with a trashcan lid outside a popular South Philadelphia cheesesteak spot, Pat's King of Steaks. According to NBC10, a 28-year-old man died after being beaten outside the cheesesteak restaurant early Thursday morning when a group of soccer fans got into a brawl. The attacking group was wearing jerseys featuring the colors of Mexican side Club America, which played the Union in Chester on Wednesday.(Philadelphia Patch)
  2. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf visited Philadelphia's Kensington section Thursday, highlighting the need for more funding to battle the opioid crisis. The governor visited Esperanza Health Center along Allegheny Avenue. He's calling on state lawmakers to pass legislation that will support efforts to curb the increase in overdose deaths in recent years. (WPVI-TV)
  3. A Massachusetts man has been found guilty of sending threatening emails to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw. Federal authorities said Peter Fratus, 39, of West Dennis, Massachusetts, was convicted Wednesday of sending threatening emails with racist, offensive, and threatening language to Outlaw. On June 6, 2020, Fratus sent two emails to Outlaw's email address which allegedly contained racist, offensive, and threatening language, with one asking about where Outlaw lives. (Philadelphia Patch)
  4. A six-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after she was hit by a vehicle as gunfire erupted in the Kensington section of Philadelphia on Wednesday night. It happened around 6 p.m. at Wishart and G streets. According to family members, the 6-year-old was fleeing the gunfire when a driver struck her. She is currently hospitalized and in stable condition at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. (WPVI-TV)
  5. The School District of Philadelphia is exploring ways to make up for a bus driver shortage that’s disrupted the first two weeks of classes. One potential remedy being considered is bringing in National Guard troops. Like districts across the nation, Philadelphia schools are facing intense bus driver shortages as the school year kicks off fully in person. (witf.org)
