PHILADELPHIA, PA — A person was killed by a fallen tree as high winds moved through Eastern Pennsylvania Sunday night, causing travel disruptions and power outages.

According to sources, a woman was killed in Northeast Philadelphia after a large tree fell on her car along the 500 block of Hill Creek Drive. Action News reported the incident happened around 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

Gusts of up to 60 mph were reported across the region Sunday.

The National Weather Service said high winds will continue Monday with up to 50 mph gusts before diminishing later in the day. A wind advisory remains in place through 6 p.m. Monday.

The winds caused numerous travel problems, including several road closures across the region due to downed trees, as well as a ground stop at Philadelphia International Airport on Sunday night.

The ground stop has since been lifted, but the airport is advising all travelers to check with their airlines for the most up-to-date scheduling.

Thousands remain without power: PECO reports nearly 30,000 customers are without power as of Monday afternoon across the region.

Outages were reported across all Philadelphia-area counties, including Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery and Chester.

Restoration estimates vary.

"Rain and strong winds, with gusts potentially reaching 45-50 mph, are expected across the PECO service territory. This forecasted severe weather may bring down trees and tree branches and cause damage to electric equipment and impact service to our customers," PECO said in a statement on its website.

After the winds die down, expect it to get very cold Monday night, when a low of 19 is predicted. It will remain cold through Wednesday, with highs in the 20s and an overnight low of 16 on Tuesday.

Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 16. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: A slight chance of snow after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday: Snow likely, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 21.
