Here are the top stories today in Philadelphia:
- Longtime 6 ABC/WPVI-TV veteran Jim Gardner announced he is dialing back his schedule with Action News and plans to retire at the end of 2022 after more than four decades in broadcasting. Gardner informed his colleagues of his decision to reduce his schedule by continuing to anchor the 6 p.m. newscast with Ducis Rodgers and meteorologist Cecily Tynan, but no longer anchoring the 11 p.m. newscast. His last late newscast is scheduled for early January. (6 ABC)
- A man dying of a gunshot wound crashed his car into parked cars along a block in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood early Thursday. Police weren't sure exactly where the shooting took place, but the car crash, which happened just after 3 a.m. along East Tioga Street near J Street, woke up sleeping neighbors. A neighbor said he and his wife ran outside and called the police after discovering the crash. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
- The Philadelphia Department of Prisons (PDP) announced that in-person visits for fully vaccinated inmates at its facilities will resume Monday, Nov. 15, 2021 for the first time since the pandemic began. The visits will require 48 hours' notices to facilitate. Accordingly, the visitation scheduling platform will open virtually beginning on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, to allow visitors to schedule on the inmate’s scheduled visiting day. (MyChesCo)
- Philly leaders think pushing for more supply chain jobs could combat gun violence. Supply chains are the focus of many programs around the country and in Philadelphia. The push for logistics and distribution jobs that are part of Philadelphia’s future plans could also help combat gun violence. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
- Design Workshop, a landscape architecture and urban planning firm that has helped develop projects in over 30 countries, has been selected to oversee the revitalization of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. City officials said Wednesday that Design Workshop's proposal to redesign the iconic thoroughfare was selected because it "showed a clear understanding of the importance of creating a renewed sense of place on the Parkway and connections between adjacent public spaces."
