Man Fatally Struck On Walt Whitman Bridge: Authorities

The man was struck by a vehicle after he got out of his own, broken down vehicle on the eastbound lanes of the bridge this weekend.

PHILADELPHIA — A man died after struck by a vehicle Sunday on the Walt Whitman Bridge after getting out of a disabled car, authorities told Patch.

The two-vehicle crash happened around 3 a.m. in the New Jersey-bound lanes, according to Mike Williams, a spokesperson for the Delaware River Port Authority.

Preliminary information indicates that a man exited a car that broke down in the far-right lane. The man was standing behind it on the roadway when a second driver struck him and the vehicle, Williams said.

The man — a 54-year-old Camden resident — was pronounced dead. Authorities withheld his name on Wednesday.

The second driver remained at the scene, Williams said.
