Man Shot Inside Car In West Philadelphia: Reports

Authorities believe the shooter was sitting next to him in the passenger seat, multiple outlets report.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - A man was found shot in the head in a car parked in West Philadelphia Tuesday night, according to several media reports.

The shooting took place shortly before 11 p.m. in the area of Chestnut and Cecil streets, 6abc reported.

At the scene, a 29-year-old man in the driver’s seat was found shot twice in the head inside a Chrysler 200, per FOX29, adding that the car was still running when police found the victim. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police found two bullet casings (in the passenger seat and outside the passenger side door), NBC Philadelphia reported.

A motive for the killing was not immediately clear.

A request for comment from Philadelphia police was not immediately returned.

98 homicides have been reported to date in Philly in 2023, a 10% decrease from the number of homicides (109) reported on the same day compared to 2022, according to Philadelphia police data.
