Market Street Lanes Closed Due After Hole Appears In Bridge: PennDOT
The Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River will undergo emergency repair work, forcing lane closures effectively immediately.

PHILADELPHIA — The Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia will have limited travel lanes for the foreseeable future due to emergency repairs, PennDOT said.
According to PennDOT, eastbound and westbound Market Street is reduced to one lane each until further notice.

The lane reductions are between 30th and 23rd streets, PennDOT said.
PennDOT said a hole appeared on a section of the bridge at about 1 p.m. Monday. Officials said the ages of the concrete and high temperatures are contributing factors to the damage.

Bridge engineers are inspecting the bridge to establish a plan for emergency repairs.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur.
