  1. Due to an increase in violence, the Philadelphia School District will now start screening students for guns and weapons each morning at its middle schools. The screenings will take place at six schools each day, in an effort to keep violence down and ensure the safety of the city's youth. High school students are already being checked for weapons each morning, but due to more cases of violence at school, the middle school students will now be checked as well. (CBS Philly)
  2. The FBI is warning Philadelphia residents about online safety after seeing an increase in sextortion crimes in the Philadelphia area. The FBI reports that the scheme is largely targeting boys ages 14 to 17 through gaming platforms or social media. All children, however, can fall victim to these types of crimes. The FBI warns Philadelphia parents to discuss online safety with their children and remind them of the dangers that may present themselves on the internet. (FOX 29 Philadelphia)
  3. On Sunday, three separate shootings caused two deaths and three injuries. In the Harrowgate section Sunday evening, a triple shooting occurred on the 900 block of East Schiller Street. One of the casualties, a 21-year-old man, was shot multiple times throughout his body and killed. He was then taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead following the incident. An 18-year-old man was also injured and was placed in stable condition at Temple Hospital. (CBS Philly)
