Phillies To Play Twins At 'Field Of Dreams' Movie Site Next Summer

DYERSVILLE, IA — Instead of Ashburn Alley, the Center City skyline, and that latesummer laden smog looming over the outfield fence, the Phillies will be looking out into a wilderness of cornfield one night next August.

The Phillies will play the Minnesota Twins at the legendary "Field of Dreams" stadium in Iowa at 7 p.m. on Aug. 13, Major League Baseball confirmed Wednesday night. The game will be broadcast live on Netflix, part of a new deal between the league and the streaming service.

It will be just the third MLB game ever played at the movie site, and the first since 2022. It sits about four hours south of Minneapolis and four hours west of Chicago.

While plans for the matchup had been tentatively announced months ago, the game was not finalized and details regarding the date and broadcast not yet been ironed out.

The game will be an away game for the Phillies, and will be played the same week the Phillies visit the Twins for a series in Minnesota.

“It is an honor to have been selected for the return of the prestigious MLB at Field of Dreams game,” Phillies managing partner and CEO John Middleton said in a statement issued by MLB. “For our players, this will be an experience they never forget as they step onto the set of one of the most iconic baseball movies ever made.”

Contrary to previous reports, the league said the game will be played in a renovated stadium, not an entirely new stadium. It will be the first professional game ever at the refurbished field, meaning the matchup in the haunted cornfields some four hours west of Chicago will be truly one of a kind.

The iconic filming location of the 1989 movie has been open to the public for years, and guests can play on the same field, just feet from the same white house, where the infamous Chicago Black Sox played in the movie. But the establishment of a permanent, MLB-regulation stadium, with some number of seats, perhaps reflects the league is eyeing an annual game.

The Phillies have already partaken in two similar special midseason games at odd locations: in 2024 they played MLB's first ever games in London, and the year before they participated in the now annual Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
