Here are the top stories today in Philadelphia:
- Philadelphia Police are searching for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run crash that happened Tuesday night on Roosevelt Boulevard in Summerdale. A witness told police the victim was crossing the boulevard at Adams Avenue when he was struck and killed. The driver then took off around 7:30 p.m. when it was dark outside. (CBS Philly)
- Philadelphia is pushing back the deadline by which people in the health care and higher education fields must be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. Instead of being fully vaccinated by Oct. 15, as was originally announced in August, health care staff in hospitals and long-term care facilities, as well as staff, faculty, and students at colleges and universities will instead need to have at least one vaccine dose by Oct. 15 and be fully vaccinated by Nov. 15. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
- The driver of a bullet-riddled Jeep survived an onslaught of gunfire in Philadelphia's Feltonville section. The victim was already at the hospital by the time police arrived on the 4800 block of Whitaker Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Jeep came to a rest on the curb with the engine still running. (WPVI-TV)
- One Philadelphia school used “Walk to School Day” to re-launch an important program that keeps their students safe. Gideon Elementary School students used the “walking school bus” to get to school Wednesday, an idea the school has used in the past. Every Wednesday going forward, volunteers will walk students to school. (CBS Philly)
- The Greater Philadelphia Pet Expo is back in town this weekend. The pet expo runs Friday-Sunday, Oct. 8-10 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Avenue, Oaks PA. Alpacas, dogs, cats, rabbits, and various reptiles are on the schedule for a weekend of shows and demonstrations. (Philadelphia Patch)
