Here are the top stories in Philadelphia today:
- The City of Philadelphia is considering a vaccine mandate for all indoor dining — affecting both customers and employees. Cities like New York and San Francisco have required proof of vaccination to eat inside a restaurant for months. A spokesperson in the Philadelphia Mayor’s Office did not confirm or deny the Inquirer’s reporting, but said the city “continues to consider strategies to address rising cases and hospitalizations.” (The Philadelphia Tribune)
- The Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) is looking for a development partner or partners to rehabilitate 59 PHA-owned vacant homes to create affordable homeownership opportunities for families in the rapidly changing Brewerytown neighborhood of North Philadelphia.
The properties involved are bounded by Ridge, Glenwood, and Girard avenues, from 24th to 30th streets. The homes range in size from two-to-six bedrooms. Under the program, PHA will convey the properties for a nominal fee. (Philadelphia Sunday Sun) - A member of the Philadelphia Police Foundation’s board has resigned over allegations that he pressured two young people to have sex with him. Allegations detailed in a petition on Change.org claim that Edwards met an 18-year-old and 19-year-old in a bar this week, then pressured the two to have sex with him at his office. The petition alleges that he may have roofied them. Fearing sexual assault, they fled the office before anything occurred. (The Philadelphia Tribune)
- A standoff at a Northern Liberties home ended in gunfire Friday morning, ending with a woman dead and her husband in custody, according to Philadelphia police. The shooting happened in the 300 block of Poplar Street. Just before 1 a.m. Friday, officers said the 55-year-old woman was shot in the face. The suspect is her 62-year-old husband. (CBS Philly)
- Philadelphia police say the son of a pizza shop employee shot a robber in the face in Spring Garden Thursday night. It happened at the Bold Pizza shop at 15th and Spring Garden Streets just before 10 p.m. According to police, three men attempted to rob the CVS Pharmacy at 490 North Broad Street around 9:45 p.m. They ran off with no money.
