  1. Salim Davis, a.k.a. “Leem,” 36, of Philadelphia was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison and five years of supervised release for illegally possessing a firearm and shooting it into a residential neighborhood. Nearly two years ago in September 2019, the defendant was convicted at trial of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking offense, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and aiding and abetting the making of a false statement to a federal firearms licensee. This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.   2. On the heels of Rite Aid’s announcement that it will move its corporate headquarters to Philadelphia, a second Central Pennsylvania company has said it will relocate to the City of Brotherly Love. International industrial services firm Harsco Corporation, which employs about 12,000 employees in 30 countries, announced plans this week to move around 100 white-collar jobs from Cumberland County to Center City. The relocation comes as a sign of progress for Philadelphia’s business district (WHYY)
  3. The man who was beaten to death outside Pat's King of Steaks this week has been identified.
    According to Action News, the victim is Isidro Cortez, 28, of Queens, New York. Cortez, along with his 64-year-old father and a 28-year-old friend, were attacked outside the popular cheesesteak business at about 1:56 a.m. Thursday. (Philadelphia Patch)
  4. US Army veteran Brandon Silva spent four years serving his country as a paratrooper, with part of that service included a tour in Afghanistan. Silva, 23, was recently honorably discharged from the Army and his community stepped up to honor him with a welcome home ceremony in his Philadelphia neighborhood. The event included several awards and meetings with fellow veterans, who offered their support to the young veteran. (WPVI-TV)
  5. Philadelphia’s first-ever esports room opened in West Philadelphia on Friday. In an effort to modernize the programs it offers and to reach more young people across the city, Philadelphia’s Parks and Recreation Department created the space at Christy Rec Center. The room in West Philly is outfitted with six flat screen TVs, nine gaming consoles with controllers (four Xbox, four PlayStation, one Nintendo Switch), 24 gaming headsets, and 20 custom gaming chairs, and two couches.
