Here are the top stories in Philadelphia today:
- A teenager walking home with his girlfriend was gunned down during a robbery in North Philadelphia overnight. Ahmir Jones and his girlfriend were walking along Cecil B. Moore Avenue near 17th Street around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday when two men, at least one with a gun, approached them and announced a robbery. The scene isn't far from Temple University, though Jones was not a Temple student. (NBC 10 Philadelphia)
- Music star Jon Bon Jovi is helping to build a new long-term recovery residence in Kensington that will provide 62 units for men and women struggling with homelessness or addiction. The residence, located at 100 E. Lehigh Ave. on the Temple Episcopal Hospital campus, will be the 21st affordable housing residence run by Project HOME. It will mark the nonprofit's second long-term recovery center in Kensington, one of the Philadelphia neighborhoods hit hardest by the opioid epidemic. (PhillyVoice.com)
- The FBI and Philadelphia police are asking for the public’s help identifying and locating the suspect responsible for an attempted robbery at a Citizens Bank in Southwest Philadelphia Tuesday morning. Authorities say the suspect entered the Citizens Bank on the 2900 block of Island Avenue, approached the counter and verbally demanded money from the teller around 9:45 a.m. He attempted to grab some money the teller was counting, but when the teller moved the money out of reach, the suspect fled the bank empty-handed. (CBS Philly)
- The Free Library of Philadelphia has named Kelly Richards as its new president and director.
He will start his new role Jan. 14, 2022. Currently the director of the Muskegon Area District Library in Michigan and President of the Michigan Library Association, Richards brings with him nearly three decades of library experience. (The Philadelphia Tribune) - As city violence continues to surge, three new evening resource centers - also being called curfew centers - will open in December in Philadelphia. The centers will operate between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. in areas where both resources are needed most and where police districts have seen the most teen curfew violations. (WPVI-TV)
