SUBURBAN PHILADELPHIA — Fall is in full swing in the Philadelphia area, with everything from fall festivals, haunted houses, hayrides and more planned in the coming days and weeks.

Sunny days and crisp evenings are perfect for outdoor fun. One can’t-miss event is the massive scarecrow display at Peddler's Village in Lahaska.

Eastern State Penitentiary Haunted Houses

Philadelphia's historic Eastern State Penitentiary is back in full spooky season swing, with Halloween Nights open now to give visitors the frights of their lives. The annual event, which runs select nights through Nov. 9, features new and improved visitor experiences this year along with many returning favorites. More details here.

Peddler's Village will celebrate the fall season with an OctoberFeast weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 and 13 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The autumn festival, featuring live music, activities, an outdoor beer garden and Oktoberfest-inspired food, also offers guests the chance to view and vote for their favorite scarecrows on display during Scarecrows in the Village. Abington Fall Festival

Abington Township will hold its festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Crestmont Park at 2595 Rubicam Ave. The rain date is Sunday, Oct. 6. The fun-filled, family-friendly event will include multiple free activities for children of all ages including Touch a Truck, Trunk or Treat, and crafts. More details here.

Shady Brook Farm FallFest

The popular Lower Makefield farm is holding FallFest through Oct. 30. FallFest features lots of activities including apple picking to its pumpkin patch, a Sunflower stroll, wagon rides, a Peanuts corn maze, the Barn of Horror, and lots of other fall fun. More details here.

Jenkintown Fall Festival

Jenkintown, as part of its 150th-anniversary celebration, will hold its festival starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. There will be a pig roast, other delicious foods, free kid's games, a DJ, pumpkin painting, beer, wine, artisan vendors, and more. More details here.

Doylestown Pumpkinfest

The annual pumpkin carving extravaganza returns to Doylestown on Oct. 26 and 27. The family-friendly event will also feature live entertainment, arts, crafts, food and more. More details here.

Lower Providence Community Fall Festival

The 36th annual event will take place Oct. 5 from 11 a.m.t o 4 p.m. at the Eagleville Township Complex. The event will feature hayrides, pumpkin patches, pony rides, live music, food, various fall activities, and much more. More details here.

Sleepy Hollow Haunted Acres

This spooky attraction features a haunted hayride, a haunted house and "the field of fright." It opens Oct. 4. For information and tickets go here.

Bensalem Family Fall Festival

The township will hold its annual Family Fall Festival —with its theme of "Community Pride" —starting at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bensalem Township Municipal Complex at 2400 Byberry Rd. (The rain date is Sunday.) More details here.

Newtown Market Day

The beloved annual tradition takes place on Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the streets in and around the Half-Moon Inn and on Court Street, Mercer Street, and Centre Avenue in historic Newtown Borough. More details here.

Roxtoberfest

Saturday, Oct. 5 marks the return of the popular Roxtoberfest in Roxborough. From noon to 6 p.m., Ridge Avenue will be transformed into a German-themed festival space with fun for all ages. More details here.

Newtown Haunted Hustle

The Haunted Hustle is scheduled to step off on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. at the Chancellor Center. The race will then follow a course that will take participants through historic Newtown ending back at the Chancellor Center for an awards ceremony, refreshments, and live music. More details here.

Lambertville Halloween Film Festival

The Lambertville Halloween Film Festival is rising from the grave for its third year and bringing rising genre filmmakers, fan favorite Halloween flicks, and events. The event will be held from Oct. 18-20. More details here.

Awbury Arboretum Fall Fest

The Oct. 20 event in Philadelphia will feature apples and pumpkins, a s’mores pit, hayrides and more. More details here.
