Woman, 64, Fatally Shot In Back Thursday Morning: Police

The woman was reportedly using a cane when she was shot in the back early Thursday morning in Philadelphia's Kingsessing neighborhood.

PHILADELPHIA — A 64-year-old woman is dead after being shot in the back Thursday morning in Southwest Philadelphia, according to police.

Police said at about 2:47 a.m. officers from the 12th District heard gunshots and shortly after responded to a radio call reporting gunshots, a person with a gun, and a woman down on the road at 5200 Greenway Ave.

There, they found an unresponsive 64-year-old woman lying on the highway with multiple gunshot wounds to her back.

Police took her to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:16 a.m.

The motive remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.

Police did not release the victim's name
