- Police in Philadelphia are asking for help finding a woman who pulled out a gun in a Chipotle restaurant over the weekend. Action News reports the incident occurred Saturday night at the store located at 2337 Cottman Ave. Video from the store shows a woman pulling out a gun from a bag inside the store. The weapon was not fired and no one was injured. (Philadelphia Patch)
- Philadelphia is reminding people to start bringing their own bags when they shop. The city is taking the next step in its ban of single-use plastic bags next month. Starting October 1, businesses need to begin phasing out the plastic bag, but there will be an additional six-month awareness, education, and warning period before full enforcement begins. (WPVI-TV)
- A report assessing the strengths, talent and startup resources of regions around the globe this year named Philadelphia in its top 30 ecosystems. The city moved up 15 spots in the Startup Genome’s Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) after being named the top “emerging” ecosystem last year, landing this year at 28th on the list. The report notes Philadelphia’s depth of tech talent, access to regional and global funding, and strengths in data analytics and life sciences as leading reasons for its ranking. (Technical.ly)
- A Philadelphia man admitted Wednesday that he orchestrated a $2 million scheme in which he falsely promised to sell personal protective equipment. Gauravjit Singh, 26, pleaded guilty to a wire fraud charge, according to federal prosecutors in New Jersey. He now faces up to 20 years in prison when he’s sentenced on February 10th. (CBS Philly)
- Philadelphia therapist Akea Williams started offering free sessions to kids touched by this trauma these past July. Her clientele exploded in just three months, as Philadelphia's murder rate is up 16% from this time last year. (WPVI-TV)
