$218M State Grants Go To Chesco Recreation Areas

The funding was awarded to the Bryn Coed, a nature preserve in Chester Springs, and to West Vincent Township for access to French Creek.

EXTON, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Wednesday awarded $218,000 in grants to two recreation areas in Chester County.

  • Natural Lands Trust: $93,000 to Bryn Coed Preserve, Chester Springs, to construct a pedestrian walkway, observation area, parking area and stormwater management measures, ADA access, landscaping, project sign and other site improvements.
  • West Vincent Township: $125,000 toward the acquisition of approximately 2.5 acres for access to the French Creek for fishing and recreation.

"Public parks and protected open spaces help us build resilient communities and improve our public health and quality of life," said State Rep. Danielle Friel-Otten, who represents the 155th District, which includes the two recreation areas.

Otten is the House chairwoman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Climate Caucus.

“By making Bryn Coed Preserve and the French Creek more accessible, we can help to ensure that all members of our community are able to enjoy the beauty of Chester County,” Otten said.

The funding is part of a $90 million grant round, which is the largest single investment in Pennsylvania recreation and conservation in agency history, Otten said.
