Church Street Traffic Study In Phoenixville Approved 7-1.

The study will determine the benefits of making the 100 block of Church Street two ways.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA —Phoenixville Borough Council voted 7-1 to hire a transportation engineering firm to conduct a feasibility regarding traffic issues on Church Street.

McMahon Associates, headquartred in Fort Washington, will study the benefit of making the 100 block of Church Street, a two-way street.

The 100 block of Church Street includes the Phoenixville Senior Center, churches, and restaurants.

The portion of the street is one-way heading west and the 200 and 300 blocks are two-way.

Dana Dugan, a councilwoman, voted against conducting a study, noting that eight parking spaces would be lost if the 100 block of Church Street is two ways.

“All anyone ever talks about is a lack of parking,” she said. “I don’t think it's a good idea to eliminate parking in the area when we have all of these projects going on.”

The issue was voted on in 2009, and then-council voted against making the 100 block two ways.'

Beth Burckley, council vice president, said she lives in the area and believes that change could improve walkability. Burckley said the study would be beneficial to make an informed decision.
