Downington's Pat Devlin Signs With Cleveland Browns

Record-setting former Downingtown East quarterback gets another NFL shot

Pat Devlin, who broke numerous Pennsylvania state high school passing records with Downington East a decade ago, has signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns, the team announced Thursday.

The move came after Devlin worked out with the the team earlier in the day. According to Pro Football Talk, the Browns were looking to add a quarterback due to an elbow injury to Johnny Manziel.

Devlin said in a press conference that he was helping with coaching at his old high school when he got the call to try out for the Browns- and he drove straight to Ohio for the tryout:

The signing also reunites Devlin with quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell, who coached him when he played for Miami.

“It’s really early. I’m just trying to learn the playbook and come out here and steal some reps and try to get better,” Devlin told reporters Thursday.

The 27-year-old Devlin, following his high school success, played college football for both Penn State and the University of Delaware. And while Devlin has never played in a regular season NFL game, he’s been on the practice squad or roster of several clubs throughout the last several years, including the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears.

The Browns have a preseason game against Tampa Bay Saturday; it’s not clear whether or not Devlin will see any action.
