Emergency Alert Test On Phones Scheduled Wednesday
The Federal Communications Commission is planning to send out alerts to all cellphones as a test at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4.
WEST CHESTER, PA —The federal Communications Commission is expected to conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, federal officials said.
No action is required by the public.
All wireless phones should receive a message that reads “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

Test messages will also be sent to all TVs and radios.
The purpose of the test is to ensure that the systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level.

In case the Oct. 4 test is postponed due to widespread severe weather or other significant events, the backup testing date is Oct. 11.
