Flash Flood Watch In Effect Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Chester County, including Phoenixville and surrounding areas.

Heavy rain is expected to continue through the day and evening hours creating the potential for flash flooding.

If you are driving and cannot see the bottom of a puddle or standing water do not drive through it. County emergency officials say it is always better to not drive through standing water. The parking lot across the street from the Foundry in Phoenixville is one example.

Standing water in the middle of the parking lot which does not look deep actually came up to the bottom of the doors of a small compact car this morning during a heavy downpour just before 11 a.m.. The car was able to make it through- but barely.

As of noon on Thursday the flood watch was to expire at midnight.
