How To Protect Your iPhone From The Cold This Winter

Cold temperatures and chilly winds have all of us wishing for spring, but who knew freezing temperatures could also send your technology screaming for a break from winter?

Cracked screens, drained batteries and water damage are just a few of the problems smartphones, tablets and laptops face from time in the cold. Below freezing temperatures can cause the inner workings of your phone, computer and other devices to freeze or become rigid. And when tech gets chilly, a simple tap could shatter your screen.

Follow the tips below from the International Business Times to keep your phone, tablet and computer running smoothly despite frigid weather.

• Limit outside use of your phone or tablet in cold temperatures. If you won’t need your phone while you’re outside, consider leaving it indoors. If you absolutely must have it with you, keep it in a pocket close to your body. Your body heat will help keep the device at a normal temperature.
• Put a case on it. A waterproof case will not only help your phone or tablet stay warm, but it will also protect the device if your freezing fingers accidently let it fall.
• Don’t leave a phone, tablet or laptop in the car overnight. Extended exposure to below freezing temperatures can freeze the liquid in your LCD screen, causing your screen to burst among other permanent internal and external damage.
• Charge your phone before you head out. A full battery can help reduce your phone’s battery drain once outside.
• Let your phone, tablet or computer warm up before you use it. According to ABC News 13, condensation can form inside your devices if they are started while still cold, causing internal water damage. Your technology should be at room temperature before you boot it up.
