Phoenixville High School Ranked Seventh Most Challenging in Pa.

The district appealed the school's omission from the Washington Post's list of most challenging high schools.

When the Washington Post released its list of the most challenging schools in the nation last week, Phoenixville School District officials could not ignore the glaring omission of the high school.

After discovering the exclusion, Superintendent Dr. Alan Fegley contacted the editor, Jay Mathews, with enough information to force a revision that now ranks Phoenixville Area High School seventh in Pennsylvania and third in Chester County, behind Downingtown STEM Academy and Conestoga High School.

On Friday the District learned of a high school ranking put out by the Washington Post – Most Challenging High Schools in America. Unfortunately at that time PAHS was not included on the list. The District contacted Mr. Jay Mathews at the Washington Post and submitted the required information.

“We are thrilled with this news,” said Fegley. “Congratulations to the students on their hard work. Congratulations to everyone in PASD who has contributed to this success.”

According to information provided by Fegley, Phoenixville had 214 students in the 2014 graduating class, and 155 of those students took either a college level exam or college level credit course. Fegley says that a total of 663 students in grades nine through 12 took an AP test.
