Phoenixville YMCA: Back To School Celebration

The public is invited to tour the YMCA for free and learn about discounts and promotions available for new members.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA —The Phoenixville YMCA is opening its doors to the community for a Back to School celebration from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Local community members are invited to tour the facility, enjoy free swim evaluations, group exercise classes, gymnastics demonstrations, activities for children, giveaways and more. There is no charge.

Special membership discounts and promotions will be available during the event.

The YMCA is also offering expanded financial assistance for memberships through the generosity of the Phoenixville Social Concerns Committee, in honor of Don Coppedge, and the Buchanan family.

Don Coppedge, who passed away on Jan. 7, 2021, was a former executive director of the YMCA, and athlete and longtime champion of Phoenixville.

“Don devoted a good portion of his adult life to providing opportunities for youth of all backgrounds and income levels to experience the many program offerings available at the Y,“ said Dr. Louis Beccaria, a member of the committee.

The Daniel Buchanan Swim for Life fund was created in loving memory of Daniel Buchanan who died Dec. 29, 2020.

Steve Buchanan, Daniel’s father, a board member of the Phoenixville YMCA, said the fund provides youth in financial need the opportunity to know the love, joy, teaming, friendships, discipline, confidence, and resilience used in their swim training will continue to transform their lives.

Low- to no-cost memberships at the YMCA ensures access to every member of the communities it serves.

Matthew Student, executive director of the Phoenixville YMCA, said memories of Buchanan and Coppedge will make a lasting impact in the youngsters’ lives and build a connective inclusive Phoenixville. Information on the Phoenixville YMCA is available here.
