Police: After Bridge Street Meltdown, Man Assaulted Cops

The borough man who was arrested late last month after allegedly going on a tirade on Bridge Street continued his tantrum once in custody, Phoenixville Police are reporting.

According to court documents, Douglas Mills, 53, assaulted a police officer in the district courthouse after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a women, shoplifting, and disrupting business the morning of September 28.

In addition to the charges he faces stemming from his initial arrest, Mills now stands charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and harassment.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, after being arrested, Mills was confined to a holding room in District Court 15-2-1. A Phoenixville Police officer waited with him for constables to arrive and transport him to Chester County Prison.

At approximately 4 p.m., during the custody transfer, Mills attacked. He punched the officer in the back of the head, then kicked him in the left knee and groin. The officer also sustained an injury to his left wrist in the scuffle.

Mills, according to the affidavit, went after the constables too, but was eventually subdued, secured, and transported to Chester County Prison.

He faces preliminary hearing on October 11.
