Police: Man Assaulted Wheelchair-Bound Wife

It was the second time since June the man was arrested for a domestic assault.

A Royersford man was arrested last weekend after East Pikeland Police say he attacked his wheelchair-bound wife during an argument.

Joseph John Pogue, 37, faces charges of aggravated assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct stemming from the alleged October 6 incident.

Pogue was also arrested on June 17 of this year for an assault of a minor at the residence.

According to court documents, sometime before 12:30 a.m. that evening, Pogue and his wife, who share a basement apartment with her autistic son on the 200 block of Kimbel Drive, got into a heated argument that turned physical.

The woman told police that Pogue pressed his forehead against hers, punched her until she temporarily lost sight, then began to strangle her. She managed to call 911 during the assault, but she said Pogue, at one point, grabbed the phone and beat her with it. He then put her in a headlock before fleeing the scene.

When police arrived, the woman was crying and shaking in the living room. According to the affidavit, she had a swollen cheek, scratches on her chin and neck, and finger marks on the left side of her neck.

Joseph Pogue returned to the apartment later that night and was arrested. He faces preliminary hearing on November 1.
