Tower Health Plans To Keep Phoenixville Hospital Open: Philly.com

The nonprofit health system continued to run low on cash reserves, but has no plans to close Phoenixville Hospital.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA— Tower Health plans to continue operating the Phoenixville Hospital, while looking for ways to improve revenues, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday afternoon.

The Inquirer reported that the hospital has enough cash to keep running for just 54 days without any new revenue.

Tower Health, headquartered in West Reading, Berks County, closed two Chester County hospitals, Jennersville Hospital on Dec. 31 and Brandywine Hospital on Jan. 31.

Tower, which is anchored by Reading Hospital, West Reading, expanded into southeastern Pennsylvania with acquisition of five community hospitals, a chain of urgent care centers, and St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in a joint venture with Drexel University.

P. Sue Perrotty, the hospital’s chief executive and president, told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the hospital intends to continue running Phoenixville, Pottstown, and Reading Hospitals, as well as St. Christopher’s in partnership with Drexel.

In June, ChristianaCare, headquartered in Wilmington, DE., announced that it plans to purchase Jennersville Hospital in West Grove from Tower Health.
