Walkable, 'Main Street' Center Planned for Devon Yard

Developers presented a plan Monday night to create a town center at the former Waterloo Gardens property.

A handful of upscale shops, a couple of eateries from Philadelphia restaurateur Marc Vetri and some luxury apartments will transform the Devon Yard property into a walkable, Main Street-style town center, according to a plan unveiled by the site developers Monday night.

Representatives from Urban Outfitters, Inc., presented the plan to the Easttown Zoning Hearing Board as part of the process to gain approval for a zoning overlay, according to Philly.com. The request is still pending approval by the township board of supervisors.

The report says that two restaurants from Vetri’s roster of chains, plus a cafe from Urban Outfitters will be among the anchors for the six-acre property. High-scale residences will also be available above the shops, according to the report.

According to the township website, a petition was submitted by Waterloo Devon, L.P., Urban Outfitters, Inc., and Anthropologie, Inc. to amend the zoning rules for the former Waterloo Gardens property and select adjacent properties located on the south side of Lancaster Avenue at Devon Boulevard.

Township manager Dan Fox said the land development plan is calling for a mixture of commercial properties and residential apartments. When the planning commission is finished with its review, it will make a recommendation to the board of supervisors, which will hold a public hearing before rendering a decision.
