Friday Night Lights: Pine-Richland Lacrosse Game to Support Student with Leukemia

There will be a "green out" an a basket auction in honor of Maria Ciarrocca.

It’s green day for a cause in the Pine-Richland community.

The Pine-Richland High School Boys Lacrosse program is hosting a "HEADstrong" event to honor high school student Maria Ciarrocca Friday, April 12 as they take on Bethel Park at Pine-Richland Stadium.

The junior varsity game kicks off at 6 p.m. and varsity game begins at 7:30 p.m.

A junior at Pine-Richland, Maria was diagnosed with leukemia earlier in the school year. She began chemotherapy shortly after Thanksgiving.

The public is encouraged to attend Friday’s event. There will be a basket auction with more than $5,000 worth of items donated by Pine-Richland booster groups and local businesses.

There also will be a 50/50 raffle and HEADstrong apparel for sale at the event.

The gate admission and all Gatorade purchased during the game will be donated to The HEADstrong Foundation, a non-profit organization that advocates, fundraises and supports those affected by blood cancers and those working towards eliminating it.

Attendees are asked to wear green to the stadium for a “green out.”
