'Brewpub' in the Works for Richland
Township officials vote to allow plans for a microbrewery to move forward as a 'special exception.'

A microbrewery could be moving into the former Tilt's Pub on Bakerstown Road.
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that Richland Supervisors unanimously approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance April 3 allowing the serving and production of alcoholic drinks as a "special exception" in neighborhood commercial and mixed-use districts.
The vote to permit "brewpubs" came after a public hearing in which no one challenged the zoning code. Tilt's is located at 4109 Bakerstown Road within a commercial district.

The Trib reports that Matt Hough, a 2000 Pine-Richland graduate, purchased Tilt's earlier this year and has applied for the amendment to transform the place into a full-service restaurant and bar with about 90 craft beers on tap.
To proceed with plans, he will have to apply for a special exception from the township zoning hearing board.
