UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued
Watch area includes Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and other counties.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning Thursday that is in effect for west central Allegheny County until 9:15 p.m.
At 8:49 p.m. the NWS Doppler Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph near Burgettstown, according to the weather service website.
In addition continuous cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with the storm.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m.Â
The weather service issues a severe thunderstorm watch when conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms to develop, according to the NWS website.

"A severe thunderstorm by definition is a thunderstorm that produces one inch hail or larger in diameter and/or winds equal or exceed 58 miles an hour," the website states.
A warning is issued when a thunderstorm has been spotted.
