Fox was the first-ever Plymouth Township officer to die in the line of duty.
Fox's death ultimately spurred legislation in Pennsylvania upping the mandatory minimum sentences for straw purchases of firearms, which is when someone who is legally able to buy a gun does so for someone who cannot legally possess one.

The man who killed Fox, Andrew Thomas, was not legally able to possess a firearm at the time he ambushed Fox. Thomas took his own life after fatally shooting Fox.
The upcoming 5K race was founded back in 2012 as a way to honor Fox, who was a five-year veteran of the police force, a U.S. Marine who had served two tours in Iraq, and a husband and father to wife Lynsay and daughter Kadence.
Fox never had a chance to meet his son, Brad Jr., with whom his wife was pregnant at the time of Fox's untimely death, which came the day before his 35th birthday.
According to the Brad Fox Memorial 5K Foundation, any proceeds from the race is distributed to police, military members, families and charities in need.
