Colonial School District to host blood drive to assist community's needs.

Are you ready to roll up your sleeves? Will you bleed for your fellow community member? Colonial School District hopes so.

Residents in the area can now sign up now for the Colonial School District blood drive. Did you know, according to the Red Cross, very two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.

"More than 44,000 blood donations are needed every day," said the Red Cross website.

Colonial hopes to help meet those needs locally.

"Reservations are now being taken for the Colonial School District blood drive," said David M. Sherman, of the school district.

The drive will be held in collaboration with the American Red Cross. Appointments can be made on Monday, March 18 from noon until 5 p.m. in the Gym North of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. The high school is located at 201 Germantown Pike, Lafayette Hill.

According to Sherman, donors must be at least 16 years old (in Pennsylvania with parental consent) and weigh at least 110 pounds.

"Federal Regulations require 56 days between regular whole blood donations," said Sherman. "Thank you in advance for your support."

The need in the area is great, and the Red Cross and the school district hope the community can help.

"A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood," said the Red Cross. "One donated pint can help up to three people."
