CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Democratic incumbent mayor of this Montgomery County borough has won reelection to another term.

Yaniv Aronson beat out Republican challenger Michael Makoid in the mayoral race, securing 1,500 votes over his challenger's 850 votes, according to unofficial results from the county's election returns.

The results were last updated on Sunday, although the race is likely finished as there were only a small handful of mail-in ballots left to be counted countywide, and not enough that would have any meaningful impact on this race.

Aronson, who said the best part of his job as mayor is connecting with people in Conshohocken, said his reelection win is a testament to his dedication toward "safety, sustainability, transparency and accessibility.

"We have seen tremendous progress on street and pedestrian safety in the last four years," Aronson said in a statement. "From the Schuylkill River Trail road crossings to neighborhood streets to our main road, Fayette St., there have been real, tangible upgrades and renovations to make our residents safer."

Aronson, who is also a professor at Montgomery County Community College, praised the Schuylkill River trail, which passes through the borough, and on which he met his wife. The two even got engaged there.

The trail has five crossings through Conshohocken, he said, noting that each was repaved, widened, lined and given new signage and lighting under his first mayoral term.

"... I could not be more thankful to Montgomery County for these upgrades," Aronson said. "They have made a noticeable difference to our residents and visitors who use the trail."

Aronson, who first got elected mayor in 2017, credits the borough for major changes in sustainability, such as changing over to lidded, full-sized recycling bins to encourage recycling, twice-yearly streets cleanups and recycling events, the planting of more than 100 trees in 2021, and the passage of the Ready for 100 Percent resolution, which commits Conshohocken to energy sustainability by the year 2035.

Aronson said he is also proud of the "historic communication upgrades" he helped bring to the office, including a regularly updated website, continuously monitored social media accounts, a monthly e-newsletter and in-person office hours at the Conshohocken Community Center at the Fellowship House.

Aronson is married to Sarah Aronson, a teacher, writer and marketing professional who is actively involved in the Conshohocken community. She is also an advocate of mental health awareness and serves on the board of Prevent Suicide PA.
