Bartlett Tree Experts worked Friday to remove a large 100-year-old Champion Ash tree with a decaying trunk,.
The tree could pose a safety risk to nearby residents and park visitors in the future if it was not removed, according to the Shade Tree Commission.
Parking on a portion of Sixth Ave was prohibited from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. while the work was completed; three large Bartlett vehicles were on the scene.
The large tree will make park, known for its tree-lined paths, slightly less shady for the time being; last year, nine trees were planted in the park, and the group continues remove trees that cause a safety risk.
