The Colonial Area Democratic Committee held their eighth annual Family Summer Barbecue at the Conshohocken Bocce League on Wednesday evening, where local democrats picnicked and greeted friends new and old.

According to Montgomery County Treasurer Jason Salus, the Colonial Area Democratic Committee member who has organized the annual event since its inception, the committee is an umbrella organization for democrats from Conshohocken, Whitemarsh, and Plymouth Meeting.

The barbecue was a happy mix of local democrats and political hopefuls, as well as municipal, state, and county officials, who munched on hamburgers and hot dogs while the local Chester Charles Band played in the background.

Conshohocken mayoral hopeful Bob Phipps, a former Conshocken Fire Chief, spent a good amount of time manning the fiery grill.

“It’s a time to thank our volunteers, recruit new volunteers, and remind people that the election is coming up in the fall,” said Salus.

State Representative Mary Jo Daley, from the 148th district, stopped by and chatted with guests, among them, Montgomery County Commissioner Vice Chair Leslie Richards.

Also at the barbecue was Norristown Municipal Council Vice President William Caldwell, who was recently in the news for receiving a marriage license with his same-sex partner of 28 years.
