Cradles to Crayons Seeking Clothes, Supplies for Underprivileged Kids

West Conshohocken's Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit that provides essential items to homeless or low-income children from birth to age 12, sent out a Facebook plea requesting several clothing and school supply items today.

“We are almost entirely out of: boys PJs sizes 11/12 and 14/16, girls PJs sizes 11/12 and 14/16, girl’s underwear sizes 5/6 and 7/8, boys underwear sizes 4T to 11/12, boys tops and pants sizes 9/10, 11/12, and 14/16, girls tops and pants sizes 9/10, 11/12, and 14/16” the post said. The organization is also in need of construction paper, scissors, and pencil sharpeners.

Cradles to Crayons was founded in 2000 in Boston, and expanded to a Philadelphia office in 2006, in response to Hurricane Katrina. 

Last year, Cradles to Crayons provided free clothes, shoes, books, toy, baby equipment and school supplies to 87,000 children in the Massachusetts and Philadelphia areas.

“We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need,” the Cradles to Crayons website says.

Donations are accepted between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 30 W. Clipper Road in West Conshohocken.

Cradles to Crayons is holding a “February Young Friends Volunteer Night” on Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at its Clipper Road office. The meeting is aimed at young professionals, ages 21 to 40, who support the mission of Cradles to Crayons through volunteerism and fundraising.
