Driver Shot Monday Morning On Schuylkill Expressway In Montco: Police

Pennsylvania State Police said the victim was hit by gunfire while traveling along I-76 in West Conshohocken. No motive has been released.

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — A motorist was shot during the overnight hours Sunday into Monday along the Schuylkill Expressway in this Montgomery County community.

Pennsylvania State Police said that troopers responded to the westbound lanes of the highway, also known as Interstate 76, at milepost 332.2 at around 1:17 a.m. for a report of a gunshot victim.

"Through investigation it was discovered that the victim was struck by gunfire while traveling on Interstate 76 westbound by a male operating a dark gray Hyundai sedan, possibly a Sonata," State Police wrote in a news release.

Police did not release a possible motive for the shooting, but the website MoreThanTheCurve, citing an unnamed source, reported that the incident might have been tied to an incident of road rage.

Patch reached out to a State Police spokesperson, who said the agency was unable to provide additional details at the moment regarding the victim, including gender, age, and physical condition following the shooting.

An arrest has reportedly not yet been made relating to the shooting.

State Police say they are continuing to investigate the shooting, and they are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call the Pennsylvania State Police/Philadelphia Criminal Investigation Unit at 215-452-5216.
