WHITEMARSH TOWNSHIP, PA — An investigation is ongoing after a helicopter made an emergency landing in Whitemarsh Township last night, with the Federal Aviation Adminstration now on scene.

Miraculously, there were no injuries, authorities said.

The chopper, a PennSTAR 1 medical helicopter, was carrying three crew members Monday night when it left Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.

It was on its way to the Wings Field Airport in Blue Bell when it encountered difficulties.

The chopper was able to navigate down to the front yard of a home on the 6000 block of Musket Road, even as the tail rotor and other pieces of it fell off.

It's still not yet clear what caused the incident.

"We are currently working in coordination with emergency services to ensure the safety and security of the area," police said in a statement late Monday. "We appreciate the community’s cooperation and assistance as we work to resolve this matter safely and efficiently."

As the investigation continues, authorities are asking residents who found any debris from the crash to call the Whitemarsh Township Police Department.
