Former Girls Swim Coach Previously Incarcerated Heading Back To Prison For Child Porn

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A former Plymouth-Whitemarsh girls swim coach who had previously spent time in prison for exchanging sexually explicit test messages with a former student is being sent back to prison for child pornography possession.

Michael Dolan, 43, was sentenced recently to 5 to 15 years in a state correctional institution for possessing child porn and for failing to register himself as a sex offender with the state, which was a condition of his previous release, according to court records and media reports.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Judge Risa Vetri Ferman also ordered Dolan to comply with the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, court records show.

Records show that sentence was imposed on Feb. 10.

Ferman also imposed other conditions during sentencing, including that Dolan submit to lifetime sex offender registration and that he has no unsupervised contact with any minors.

In December 2019, Montgomery County prosecutors had charged Dolan, formerly of the Lafayette Hill section of Whitemarsh Township, with felony charges related to disseminating and possession child pornography.

In a previous news release, the District Attorney's Office said that at that time county detectives had received five cyber tips from Google, which were relayed by the Delaware County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, that involved content on a Google Drive account that was ultimately traced to Dolan.

The content consisted of 12 videos and five still photos depicting children ages 2 to 14 engaging in sexual acts and/or poses that were determined to be child pornography, the D.A.'s Office previously stated.

Investigators subsequently obtained a search warrant and discovered 137 child porn images on Dolan's cellphone, at least 10 of which depicted children under 13, according to prosecutors.

It was in July 2020, when Dolan was awaiting trial on those charges, when Whitemarsh police were informed by Pennsylvania State Police that Dolan failed to comply with sex offender registration status, according to an article in the Mercury newspaper of Pottstown.

The paper also reported that back in late 2009 Dolan was sentenced to between one-and-a-half and three years at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility following his guilty plea to charges of unlawful contact with a minor for purposes of prostitution and corruption of a minor relating to incidents involving a teen girl back in the spring of 2008.
