Major Traffic Pattern Shift Begins This Week On 202 In East Norriton
A stretch of some two miles of U.S. 202 will be impacted, affecting multiple area muncipalities.
NORRISTOWN, PA — A new traffic pattern will be in place in the greater Norristown area this week as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation continues work on its U.S. 202 area reconstruction project. Parts of Norristown, East Norriton, and Whitpain will be impacted, officials said.
Traffic in both directions of 202 and Johnson Highway will be shifted from the right lane to the left lane starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
The shift will be in place between Logan Street and Montgomery Avenue on 202, and between Rahway Avenue and Bradbury Drive on Johnson Highway, PennDOT said.

The new pattern is needed for continuing reconstruction of the roadway, clearing, and utility reolocation work.
It's not clear how long these particular closures will be needed. They'll be in place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Overall work on the roadways is expected to continue through 2023.
The $54.3 million project is funded federally, and is being executed by Worcester contractor Allan Meyers.
Meanwhile, lane closures will continue on the following roadways as part of the project:
- U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) between Johnson Highway and Swede Road
- Germantown Pike between Mill Road and Hannah Avenue
- Township line Road between Butchers Lane and Dekalb Boulevard
- Johnson Highway between Bradbury Drive and Old Arch Road
A total of 9.1 miles of 202, along with parts of Johnson Highway in Norristown and Route 309 in Montgomery Township, are being reconstructed and widened as part of the initiative.
