Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes 2 Cars, Tries to Flee on Foot, Cops Say

A Glenside man faces multiple charges stemming from a Jan. 25 incident in Fort Washington in which he allegedly struck a Volvo in a dealership lot while fleeing from a Pennsylvania Avenue crash, and then tried to escape on foot, according to Upper Dublin Police.

Robert Grasty, 42, will be charged with driving while operating privileges are suspended, abandoning a vehicle on private property, careless driving, trespass by motor vehicle, accident involving both attended and unattended vehicles, and duty to give information and render aid.

Gregory Bradley, of Plymouth Meeting, was stopped in the left-turn lane on Bethlehem Pike, waiting to go onto Pennsylvania Avenue at 9:15 p.m. when Grasty allegedly drove around Bradley and the vehicles collided, police said.

There was significant front-end damage to Bradley's Honda Civic, according to police.

Grasty then pulled into the Volvo dealership at 115 Bethlehem Pike and, after striking a parked 2013 Volvo S60, fled the scene on foot, according to the Ambler Gazette. The police brief states that police found Grasty on the 100 block of Fort Washington Ave.

According to police, Grasty initially said someone else was driving the vehicle, a green 1993 Mazda Navajo, but would not provide a name. Eventually, Grasty admitted to driving the vehicle during the crash, police said.

Based upon charges, Grasty had a suspended license at the time of the crash. The vehicle he was driving, registered to Lamont Prince, was uninsured, according to police. Prince will be issued numerous citations regarding the uninsured vehicle, police said.

While there was allegedly alcohol on his breath, Grasty passed a Breathalyzer test on the scene, so he will not be charged with DUI, according to police.
