Plymouth Medical Marijuana Scheme Lands Man in Prison

An Arizona man is headed to prison to two-and-a-half to five years after pleading guilty to smuggling 270 pounds of medical marijuana into Plymouth Township, according to the Pottstown Mercury.

Ralph V. Garcia, 56, of Tuscon, Ariz., pleaded guilty to felony charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, conspiracy and dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities after State Police seized the marijuana in March of 2011.

Authorities alleged that Garcia possessed a medical marijuana identification card out of California showing that he was a patient legally permitted to possess marijuana.

“We’ve now found the trend that individuals who legally can possess or grow medical marijuana in states that have lawfully allowed it find they can make more money off of it selling it in states where it’s illegal,” said Pennsylvania Chief Deputy Attorney General Andrew M. Rongaus, who prosecuted the case.

In addition to the prison time, President Judge William J. Furber, Jr. ordered Garcia to be under court supervision for 10 years.
