Montco Driver Rescued After Tree, Power Lines Fall On Vehicle

Emergency responders in Upper Merion rescued a motorist who had become trapped inside a vehicle that was toppled by a tree and power lines.

UPPER MERION, PA — A Montgomery County driver had to be rescued from a vehicle in Upper Merion Township Tuesday morning after becoming trapped when a tree and active power lines toppled the car.

Emergency responders were dispatched around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Arden Road and Lantern Lane for a reported vehicle rescue, according to Upper Merion Township Fire & EMS.

Callers had told 911 dispatchers that someone was trapped inside a vehicle on the roadway.

PECO utility workers had to descend upon the scene to de-energize the powerlines, after which rescue crews and members of the Upper Merion Township Public Works Department cut away parts of the tree in order to access the victim, according to local officials.

The victim, whose identifying information was not released publicly, was safely extricated from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

Photos posted to the Upper Merion Township Fire & EMS Facebook page showed the large tree had crashed down on the vehicle, which appeared to be some model of Subaru, possibly a Crosstrek.
