Montgomery County Officers, Paramedic Taken To Hospital For Suspected Fentanyl Exposure

The four Springfield Township police officers and Ambler paramedic were taken to the hospital after suspected fentanyl exposure.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — A handful of first responders were taken to the hospital early Friday morning after a possible illegal drug exposure.

Four officers with the Springfield Township Police Department and a paramedic working with the Community Ambulance Association of Ambler were transported to an area hospital just after 3:30 a.m. to be seen by doctors after apparently coming into contact with a substance they believed to be the deadly drug fentanyl, according to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety.

Meanwhile, hazmat technicians assisted local law enforcement and investigators with the Montgomery County Detective Bureau with sampling and identifying the unknown substances at the scene, according to the DPS, which made the announcement about the incident on its Facebook page.

According to the Springfield Township Police Department, officers and medical technicians were dispatched to a home on Trumbauer Drive in the Wyndmoor section of Springfield Township for a report of a drug overdose during the early morning hours Friday.

The department said that the officers who came into contact with the suspected fentanyl have since been treated and cleared by doctors; the last of the four was expected to be discharged from the hospital sometime Friday.

No other information was provided about the incident. The condition of the individual who may have overdosed on the drug at the home was not released.
