Philly Man Cited After Not Paying Fare, Causing a Disturbance, Police Say

Whitemarsh Police Cited a Philadelphia man for disorderly conduct after he allegedly caused a disturbance on an inbound SEPTA train.

Lamont Williams, 39, of the 6100 block of Old York Road, was cited Tuesday, Oct. 22 shortly before 9 a.m. after he told a SEPTA conductor that he didn't have money to pay for the train fare near the Fort Washington station, police said. According to police, Williams became irate and started yelling and swearing at the conductor; he also told the conductor that "all the white guys let him go and now a brother is going to harass him for the money."

At the Fort Washington station, the conductor said that Williams approached him on the platform and threatened to "kick him" and told him that he would "remember his face," according to police. Police then made contact with Williams, who said that he never threatened the conductor, but added that he knowingly rode the train without having enough money to pay for the fare.

SEPTA personnel said they do not want Williams to be allowed to ride the train anymore, police said.
