Plymouth Firefighters Spend Weekend Extinguishing Vehicle Fires

The Plymouth Fire Company had multiple calls of vehicle fires this weekend. One was along Interstate 476 and the other in a business lot.

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — Fire crews in Plymouth Meeting had a busy weekend extinguishing numerous vehicle fires in the area.

The first came through a little after 11 p.m. on Aug. 20 when crews were dispatched to mile marker 19.5 on southbound Interstate 476 (the Blue Route) for a report of an 18-wheel tractor trailer that was ablaze, the Plymouth Fire Company No. 1 posted on its Facebook page.

Firefighters doused the trailer portion of the vehicle, which had reportedly already been detached from the cab of the truck at the time of the fire. Crews later found out the trailer was filled with large rolls of paper products.

Fire crews from Harmonville Fire Company No. 1 and George Clay Fire Company – Station 39 were called to assist, according to the Plymouth Fire Company.

Firefighters worked for more than an hour-and-a-half to extinguish the blaze on the trailer, which involved the use of more than 3,000 gallons of water. No injuries to civilians or first responders were reported.

The second call came in around 1:05 p.m. on Aug. 21 and involved the report of vehicles on fire inside the Insurance Auto Auction lot on the 100 block of Industrial Way in Plymouth Township. The vehicles that were in fire were located at the rear of the large parking lot.

Flames ended up engulfing more than 9 vehicles on the lot, and it took crews more than an hour to get the scene under control, according to fire officials. In addition to the 9 vehicles that caught fire, five additional vehicles sustained fire-related damage, according to the department.

Plymouth firefighters were assisted at the scene by crews from Harmonville Fire Company No. 1 and Conshohocken Fire Company No. 2.
