Plymouth Service and Devotion Monument to Presented in November

Local veteran George Gunning thanked council and township staff for its commitment to the project, which is now accepting donations.

The Plymouth Service and Devotion Monument will be erected in Community Center Park on the corner of Germantown Pike and Walkton Road by Veteran’s Day in November, and bricks and pavers are now available for purchase by community members.

Local veteran George Gunning, Jr., who spearheaded the project and has been involved in neighboring community veterans monuments, addressed the council, thanking the staff and elected officials for support.

“I’m here to tell you what a pleasure it has been to work with your staff,” Gunning said.

Plymouth Township Council President Sheldon Simpson said Gunning’s presentation “officially kicks off the service and devotion monument project.” Bids are expected to go out next month, and construction should be completed in the fall.

Individual donation levels start at $75, for a 4 inch by 8 inch brick, which is available to any supporter.

Donation levels go up to $750, and can include an armed service or Plymouth emergency service logo, and are available for those who have served in the armed forces and lived in Plymouth Township at some point in their lives, or have served Plymouth Township as an emergency responder.

Business contributions begin at $75 and have no limit.  The size of the bricks and pavers for businesses contributing over $1,000 are pending final design approval.
