Ridge Pike Improvement Project Begins $40 Million Next Stage
One of the county's largest infrastructure projects in history broke ground on its next phase this week. Details:
PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — The Ridge Pike Improvement Project, one of the largest ongoing infrastructure improvement efforts in Montgomery County in recent years, advanced to its next stage this week.
Officials formally broke ground on Section B of the project, which will focus on the stretch from Belvoir Road to Chemical Road.
This next $40 million stage will add a center left turn lane, traffic signals on Industrial Way and Carland Road, a new interchange with I-476, as well as much needed stormwater drainage and management facilities.

"Ridge Pike is a critical corridor in Plymouth Township, connecting Norristown with the Blue Route, and accommodating 30,000 vehicles daily and thousands more when crashes occur on the Schuylkill Expressway and I-476," Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence said in a statement. "This is why Montgomery County is committed to rebuilding and improving this county-owned portion of Ridge Pike."

Pedestrian safety and SEPTA bus stop accessibility are two major drivers for the improvements, officials said.
Construction will take about two years.
J.D. Eckman is completing the project with funds from the Federal Highway Administration and PennDOT.
