SEPTA Unveils ‘Commuter’s Choice’ Ad Campaign
The program saves employees 10 percent on SEPTA costs, provides a tax break for employees, according to SEPTA.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA) has unveiled a new ad campaign for Commuter’s Choice, a cost-savings and convenience-driven program for SEPTA commuters and employers.
Commuter’s Choice allows employees to save up to $900 per year by enrolling in the transportation benefit program offered through their employers, which provides up to $245 per month in tax-free benefits towards transportation costs that can cover the entire cost of SEPTA riders’ weekly and monthly passes, pre-tax.

In addition to the tax break and a 10 percent discount for commuters, five percent from SEPTA with a required matching five percent from the employer, employees will also be able to pick up passes at their workplace, bypassing long lines, SEPTA says.
“Our employees who participate in the Commuter’s Choice program appreciate the discount, as well as the convenience of getting their passes hand delivered without the hassle of joining long lines,” said Olive L. George, Human Resources Generalist for Montgomery McCracken Walker& Rhoads LLP, according to a SEPTA press release.

The program can be provided in addition to salary, as a pre-tax payroll deduction, or as a benefit.
Employers who participate in the program save up to $200 per employee in FICA-related taxes annually, according to SEPTA.
“The pre-tax savings can be substantial over the course of the year – and the programs are simple to administer,” said Jennifer Scimone, SEPTA Senior Sales Development Specialist.
