Whitemarsh Board Votes to Allow Dogs in Township Parks

Leashed dogs are now permitted to accompany their owners in parks and on trails.

The Whitemarsh Township Board of Supervisors voted on March 28 to amend the Parks and Recreations Rules and Regulations to permit leashed dogs in Township parks.

According to township manager Richard Mellor, dogs frequently are walked along park paths and attend recreational activities in parks with their owners, both of which were in conflict with previous code.

According to code, dogs had previously only been permitted in McCarthy and Kline parks, as well as bike paths.

All residents who bring dogs to public parks will have to comply with the Whitemarsh Township Dog Control ordinance, which requires that dogs be leashed at all times with a sturdy material that is no longer than eight feet.
